VILLA BONOMI

THE BEST WAY TO SPEND A WEEK IN LAKE COMO

An intimate luxury resort, this 900 year old castle in the Maremma countryside boasts storybook views and authentic Tuscan comforts at every turn.

The obvious charm of Vicarello's honey-colored facade and perfumed gardens is complemented by thoughtful nuances to enhance every guest's experience...a duo of valley-facing infinity pools, a Balinese hut for massages, yoga and personal training, secluded dinners beneath centuries-old olive trees.

Castello di Vicarello is not just an off-the-beaten path retreat overflowing with rustic elegance, it's a way of life that immerses you in la dolce far niente so significantly, it leaves a permanent impression on your heart.

VENUE HIGHLIGHT

Around Tuscany

Departing from Milan's Porta Garibaldi or Centrale station, tickets will cost $6-15 for arrivals at Como S. Giovanni (40 min) or Varenna-Esino (1 hr).

There's nothing quite as magical as a scenic ferry ride along the lake. And the routes from either Como or Varenna to Tremezzo are true stunners!

Ferries are the slower form of transportation in Lake Como, but that's part of their charm. They give you a wonderful opportunity to not just sightsee, but truly marvel at Lake Como's timeless and effortless beauty.

During this final leg of your arrival journey, about 37 minutes, you'll get witness the most glorious introduction to a hotel there ever was!

LAKE COMO ITINERARY

Day One

While some travelers do opt for the short 40 minute drive from Milans' Malpensa Airport to the southern shores of the lake, most visitors avoid the hassle of unfamiliar roads, fuel costs and steep parking fees by taking the train.

Fortunately, the lake's most captivating villages are nestled like jewels in a crown along the very edges where land meets lake, making all the top destinations accessible by boat.

With ample public + private transport options both on and off the water, you can absolutely get by without a car!

Departing from Milan's Porta Garibaldi or Centrale station, you're looking at tickets between $6-15 for arrivals at either Como S. Giovanni (40 minutes) or Varenna-Esino (1 hr and change).

01. ARRIVING IN "COMO COUNTRY"

Arrive In The Lakeside District Via Car Or Train From Milan

Welcome to your home for the next few days: the Grand Hotel Tremezzo.

It's impossible to miss this globally-renowned property boasting Art Nouveau architecture, iconic orange awnings, striped beach umbrellas, a floating pool that sits on the lake and so much more... don't even get us started on the breathtaking Grigne mountain views!

While the GHT feels like it was plucked from a modern-day Wes Anderson film, its actually one of the oldest hotels in the world, having first opened its doors to Europe's elite in 1910.

With its sun-lounger terraces like those in Suite Greta, its lavish private park and lakeside beach à la 50's Italian Riviera, you could do worse in life than call the Grand Hotel Tremezzo your stomping grounds for a few days!

FLOUNCE

From where we stand, the name of the game is undoubtedly flounce. Flirtatious wiggles, squiggles + swirls, whimsical scallops, lighter-than-air bounce... we adore the way that flounce vibes creates playful dimension to otherwise ordinary designs. So whenever we spot it in art, architecture, fashion, pattern, interiors, lettering and beyond, you can bet we're bookmarking every last example of this joyful design energy that reminds us not to take things too seriously. Life would be ever so boring that way!

STRIPES

The humble stripe has long been lauded as a jack of all trades, achieving a sense of bold color, engaging pattern and powerful scale all at the same time. Stripes can transform an entire room in a second, and we applaud their dynamic nature allowing them to morph into something formal, sophisticated and serious OR kitschy, fun and wild depending on the intended mood. We hope their latest comeback involved a one-way ticket to the world of design, as we aren't quite sure we could handle another heartbreak!

VAULTED CANVASES

Ancient frescoes in Italian monasteries, intricate tromp l'oeil nature scenes in German castles, surrealist hand-painted murals in adobe homes... we simply can't resist the awe-inspiring nature of vaulted canvases! Forever reminding us that beauty occurs from all angles, our favorite examples of architectural genius matched with spell-binding interiors are proof that every humble corner has purpose, power and unlimited potential. Looking up might be the best thing you ever do!

FOLKLORE COSTUME DESIGN

Vivid folklore costumes for Eastern European ballets + operas in the early 1900's, like this Natalia Goncharova masterpiece for Le Coq d'Or, hold a particular fascination for us. The creative ingenuity and avant-garde innovation of these designers attests to their status as pioneers of textile art as we know it today. We'll forever admire their natural abilities to layer colorful embellishments with intricate embroidery techniques in a way that feels both confident and humble at the same time.

CRAZY CONTAINERS

Luxury can still exist in the wild + weird, and this unique creation from ceramicist Stephanie Kantor is the perfect example. What is beautiful can also be functional... or not! Sometimes it's about spontaneous expression, and that has no boundaries. We've always been inspired by artists that go their own way, but with the constant flood of "samesy" content from well-intended(?) algorithms and internet envy, we feel ever-compelled to spotlight that which is a little bit crazy, yet a whole lotta distinctive.
