While some travelers do opt for the short 40 minute drive from Milans' Malpensa Airport to the southern shores of the lake, most visitors avoid the hassle of unfamiliar roads, fuel costs and steep parking fees by taking the train. 

Fortunately, the lake's most captivating villages are nestled like jewels in a crown along the very edges where land meets lake, making all the top destinations accessible by boat. 

With ample public + private transport options both on and off the water, you can absolutely get by without a car!
