Weddings at Cliveden House
Cliveden House and Spa is an award winning 5 Red Star Hotel with over 350 years of history filled with luxurious parties, scandals and guest lists that feature royals, actors, presidents and the like. It's rich history, grande interior and prestigious setting in 376 acres of English parkland makes it one of the best destination wedding venues in England.
The house was originally built in 1666 by 2nd Duke of Buckingham as a Hunting Lodge and gift to his mistress, as you do. After passing through several hands, which we will go into further below, the house is now privately owned with the expansive grounds being looked after by the National Trust.

The details...
Cliveden House became a hotel in 1985 and since has been branded as the most luxurious & quintessentially English hotel in the United Kingdom and, we couldn't agree more. Setting in 376 acres of National Trust parkland, the Grade 1 stately home makes the perfect spot for your destination wedding in England.
Whilst exclusive use will allow couples and guests the most flexibility and benefit of having all 48 guest bedrooms, Cliveden do offer individual room hire for more intimate affairs for up to 60. If your guest numbers exceed 60, you will need to opt for exclusive hire which allows couples to up to 120 guests. Exclusive hire starts at £30,000 per night and couples should expect a minimum food & beverage spend.
With a large variety of rooms and spaces to choose from, for both ceremony and dinner, couples are able to make their day truly unique. Choices include; The Spring Cottage, The Boudior, French Dining Room, Lady Astor Suite, Andre Garrett Restaurant and the Great Hall. Do keep in mind your guest count will ultimately dictate which rooms you are able to take advantage of.
When getting married at Cliveden House, guests are invited to make the most of not only the vast grounds across their stay but also take full advantage of the screening room, gym, outdoor & indoor pool, spa and tennis courts.

Though, we do not normally dive fully into the history of our venue partners, Cliveden House is an exception, it is too good not to. Let's start at the beginning, when in 1666, the 2nd Duke of Buckingham built the house as a hunting lodge and gift for his mistress. Only two years later in 1668, the Duke would duel with Earl of Shrewsbury on account of Countess of Shrewsbury. Sound like an episode of Bridgerton? We think so, too.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the house become home to many different owners including Frederick Prince of Wales, 4th Earl of Inchiquin, Duke and Duchess of Sutherland and Duke of Westminster. In 1893, the house was purchased by the immensely rich, William Waldorf Astor at a pricepoint of $1.25 million. Mr Astor, is to thank for the 18th century wall panels which are now seen in the French Dining Room as well as the Fountain of Love, carved by Thomas Waldo Story, a trademark which welcomes all guests upon arrival.
The 20th century was an era for the ages at Cliveden House. Not only did it welcome guests such as President Franklin D. Roosevelt, The Beatles, Charlie Chaplin and George Bernard Shaw but it also become home to the biggest scandal in British politics history, the Profumo affair.
